About
Do you like to thump on railings, lampposts, and bollards as you walk past them? Found some particularly resonant or cool-sounding objects in your wanderings through New York City? The Thumping Guide to NYC is a resource for sharing the best noisemakers in the city. The Guide needs your help to identify as many good thumping spots as possible!
You can contribute by making short videos with sound and posting them in our flickr group, or upload them to any other video sharing site that allows embedding and then email thumper at thumpingguide.com.
I’ve added a Creative Commons Attribution License to all my thumping videos, which means you’re welcome to reuse them in any way you like as long as you give credit. If you contribute to the Thumping Guide, I encourage you to do the same, or at least use any of the other CC Licenses that allows remixing. If you post your video on flickr, add the license using their licensing menu; if you submit in a different way, let me know what license you’d like to use.
You can see all the videos with a remix license (right now, it’s all of them) by clicking the CC tag. I hope someone will make music, or a drum kit or sample set out of them!
The Thumping Guide to NYC is a moonmilk.com project for Conflux 2009. If you’d like to set up a Thumping Guide for your own city, get in touch! thumper at thumpingguide.com
